The Jai Journal

everything is the f**king same and i'm tired of it

Hey, Jai here.

This is my journal where I brain dump interesting things i’ve learnt or done recently.

You’re in the 0.1% of my audience that get to read this. Here’s the latest (5-ish minute read):

Month update:

I’ve been in the tiny Mallorcan town of Port Des Canonge for the last 4.5 weeks. I find myself returning once a year because of how much peace it brings me.

The older I get the more I optimise for peace. As few meetings as possible, deep work when i’m inspired and then 4pm reading on the sun rock.

Organic meat, roasted sweet potatoes and sprouts for almost every lunch and dinner.

Present conversations with friends that I respect and deeply care about.

Playing chess and games as often as I can.

All things that bring me peace. I might go as far as saying peace may be life’s greatest luxury.

I’ve been to a lot of beautiful places but this month has had more pinch-me moments than any others, I think.

IG dump here if you wanna see.

Last journal entry I spoke about the book i’m writing. It was meant to be done by now, but it’s not.

Maybe 32 degree Spanish weather isn’t the best conditions for writing on a laptop.

Or maybe (more likely) I just haven’t given it my sole focus and obsession.

So yeah, more on the book soon. Until then;

I made a youtube video for the first time in ages, explaining why I haven’t been making youtube videos. It’s called Alone in Hawaii and I talk about how everything is the fucking same and i'm tired of it. Hope you connect with it like a bunch of people have already :)

Random things that have given me value lately:

  1. I just attended Cannes Lions for a few days and i’m confident i’ll go back every year. It’s a breeding ground for interesting people; creators, founders, athletes, execs, actors, etc. Oprah, Steven Bartlett, Jay Shetty, GaryVee, David Dobrik, Scott Gallaway, and basically every c-suite from youtube, meta, tiktok, google, snapchat etc.

Companies spend millions of dollars on a single event during the week because they know it’s the best networking opportunity they can have. I don’t think there’s a higher concentration of high-value people anywhere else in the world.

Thinking about booking a big house and inviting a few people to join next year. You in?

JT if you're reading this, let's host a house party together!
  2. The creative power of invisibility video. Rick Rubin is one of the most influential producers of our generation. He made music with Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash, Jay Z, Kanye West, Eminem, AC / DC + many others, and later wrote a book called The Creative Act. What I love about Rick is that he never tried to make top hits. He just focused on the work and made things that he and his friends would like… and the rest of the world seemed to agree.

Was really inspired watching this youtube video^
  3. Made to stick. A book about how some ideas stick, and others are forgotten. Why is it that some videos hook us in and we feel like we HAVE to stay to till end? Or read articles and books that we just can’t put down?

You may not even notice, but it’s all in copywriting techniques. You can engineer stickier ideas, which get more attention and make people want to keep reading and, more importantly, remember what they read forever. It’s a superpower, and this book gives a bunch of useful frameworks… relevant for me as I write my own :)
  4. Go buy some organic cotton underwear. There's a lot of science behind how they're much better for you than polyester and other materials. Especially for men - it'll save your testi’s and help you make babies later in life.

I found a dope little store in Esporles called Gentl and they sell online too. Not sponno but happy to support local and Maor (the founder) is a legend.

Learning / big idea

I have 2 for ya:

1. So much of life is about giving others permission to be themselves. And in doing so, you give it to yourself.

2. In line with the recent YT vid, here's how i'm feeling about the state of the founder ecosystem:

Everywhere I look, there are new communities, founder houses and people building in public on YouTube. These are net positive things (imo) and even though we probably help inspire a lot of it, they leave me feeling so... uninspired.

It doesn’t make me want to do more of it.

I don’t want to compete, I want to create. Newness. To influence the world in my own way. The only way to stand out is to be different. As Naval says, escape competition through authenticity.

We spent 10s of thousands of dollars a month on content teams last year to ramp up videos across socials, trying to 'compete' with the noise. Now I'm stripping it right back. Me, a 13 year old camera and a bunch of raw, one‑take videos talking from the heart. Trusting that whoever needs to hear it will hear it <3

What’s happening next

I’m in Bordeaux & Biarritz for the next 2 weeks as we prep for the biggest (sold out) event we’ve ever done - Camp Mondays. 100 entrepreneurial minds living together in a village for a week.

Random ask: We had a Special Guest spot open up and i’d like to invite someone to join us for the week. An experienced founder who is influencing culture. Think Steven Bartlett, Daniel Dalen, Davie Fogarty, etc.

Who do you know, that we could invite?

Evan is going to hate me for saying this BUT if you can make the intro to someone we deem worthwhile & aligns with our values, and they join, i’ll see if I can get you a free ticket too.

And finally, a thought to ponder.

How can you curate your environment such that achieving your goals becomes inevitable?

Seeya when I have something worth saying.

Big love,

Jai
