The Jai Journal

launched an app, filmed a pod, went for a run,

Hey, Jai here.

This is my journal where I brain dump interesting things i’ve learnt or done recently.

You’re in the 0.5% of my audience that get to read this. Here’s the latest (4 minute read):

10 days in NYC went by so fast.

Then 10 days in Austin.

Now mid-way through our stint in LA.

video preview

Quick highlights:
- Seeing Alina again after 1 month
- Running through Central Park with the Minted New York crew
- Filming a podcast with my buddy Chris Griffin (out now)
- Doing Acro Yoga with the creator of Acro himself. Chill guy.
- Averaging 15k steps a day wandering the steets.
- Playing a bunch of tennis with new and old friends.
- Hanging out with some of the biggest creators on this planet.
- Kinda not working that much?

Beautiful randomness. Going with the flow. Feeling a little guilty I haven’t uploaded on youtube for a while though - I have like 4 months of footage that hasn’t been edited… yet.

I sent an email out last week about assembling a dream team. We had 1000 replies and over 200 applications - impressive because it takes probably 2-3 hours of work to apply (we have high standards, hehe).

Well, we’re opening another spot on our sales team (aka alignment team). You’ll get to interview hundreds of interesting young founders that apply for AOM, and vet them to make sure they fit our ethos.

This is more of a leadership role, so only reply if you’re genuinely cracked and think you can out-perform me on a sales call (hint: I have an unfair advantage because i’m the founder, haha).

Reply to this email - the more creative approach the better. Base + healthy commission for the right person. Uncapped.

Maybe you’ll get an invite to come hang out with our team in a villa in France next month!?

“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.” - Steve Jobs

I really resonate with this sentence. Be prepared to be misunderstood by almost everyone.

We talked a bit about it in the pod that just dropped with Chris. I also shared a bunch of childhood stories and lessons I haven’t spoken about anywhere else. Worth a watch, maybe?

Probably the biggest news since my last journal is something that we’ve had a team of 4 ppl working on for the last 4 months. It’s the first app that i’ve been involved in making… i’ve always been more of a content / marketing guy. It’s pretty fucking cool though. Search “Founder Sports Club” on any app store and you’ll find it.

If you notice any bugs pls ping me!

Anyone want to design a cool app icon for us?

We had Dean and Jaryd from Nakie drop by for a QnA with the AOM fam the other day, and honestly it was the kinda conversation you could pay a mentor $50k for. They're world class at ecommerce and spend nearly $10M/yr on meta alone.

Usually it's top secret, member-only, classified information, but fuck it. I'll let you in on some of the gold.

Here's 18 gold nuggets from our conversation.

The last only really hits for me.

We’ve been on the road FT since the start of the year. And i’m loving it. But sometimes I get the urge to invest in a more consistent space/home. Pic for the vibes.

On our drive from Ojai back to LA yesterday we dropped by Collins and Devan’s home, and it got me fired up.

A couple of brothers in their 20s. In the top 100 creators on the internet. And at one point they had a team of 65 people working from their house. I can only imagine how fun and collaborate that would have been.

I’d love to do the same thing. Probably somewhere in Spain because it’s warm and fairly transient and well-connected. Kinda vibe:

A big ole converted farmhouse in Mallorca. Outdoor home gym so we can workout in the sun. Sauna/ice on the roof. Basketball & tennis court. Beautiful open loft workspace. And an obnoxiously big conversation pit so I can bring interesting people together for intimate events.

Here's some more inspo if you're digging this topic.

Anyone wanna go halves?

I was chatting with the AOM fam the other day and the idea of a friends newsletter came up. Kinda like this one, but more of a monthly investor report (with no investors).

I was surprised by how many people wanted to try it for themselves. Jose said he was inspired by Greg Issens post and went on to write an email every month.

So here’s a thought to ponder:

What would happen if you made a friends email letter and brain dumped on it every once in a while?

Worst case: you spend a couple hours on it that you won’t get back
Best case: the craziest opportunities of your life comes from it

Seems like a solid tradeoff to me.

That's all for now. See you when I have something worth saying.

Big love,
Jai
